Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Herald.ink ("Herald", "we", "us"), an AI-assisted campaign management tool for tabletop role-playing games operated by a solo independent developer. By creating an account or using Herald, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
The service
Herald lets you build and manage tabletop campaigns, including AI-generated NPCs, monsters, locations, lore, maps, and other content. Herald is offered on an ongoing basis and is under active development; features may change, be added, or be removed over time.
Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old to use Herald.
- You are responsible for the activity under your account and for keeping your login secure. Authentication is provided through our identity provider, Clerk.
- You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Herald for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
- Generate, store, or share content that is illegal, infringing, hateful, harassing, or that depicts the sexual exploitation of minors.
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the service or its infrastructure.
- Abuse, circumvent, or resell generation capacity or plan limits, or use automated means to consume the service beyond normal use.
- Infringe the intellectual property or privacy rights of others.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
Your content
You retain ownership of the campaign content you create and the prompts you write. You grant Herald a limited license to store, process, and display that content solely to operate the service for you — including sending prompts and context to our AI providers to return generated results. You are responsible for the content you create and for ensuring you have the rights to any material you upload.
AI-generated content
Herald uses third-party AI models to generate content at your request. AI output can be inaccurate, derivative, or unexpected, and similar output may be generated for other users. You are responsible for reviewing generated content before relying on it. To the extent permitted by the underlying AI providers, ownership of the content you generate rests with you; we make no warranty as to the originality or non-infringement of AI output.
Plans and payment
Herald offers free and paid plans. Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis through our payment processor. Plan limits (such as generation quotas and available modules) are described on the pricing page. You can cancel at any time; cancellation stops future renewals but does not entitle you to a refund of the current period except where required by law. We may change prices with reasonable notice.
Availability
Herald is provided on a reasonable-effort basis. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times, and we may perform maintenance or make changes that temporarily affect availability.
Termination
You may stop using Herald and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the service. On termination, your right to use Herald ends; deletion of your data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
Disclaimers
Herald is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Herald and its developer will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as Herald evolves. When we make material changes we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continuing to use Herald after a change means you accept the revised Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of France, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence still apply.
