Frequently asked

What counts as a "generation"?: One drafted entity or one edit pass: an NPC, a monster, a location, a targeted rewrite. Writing and editing by hand are never metered; only the work you hand off to me counts.
What if I run out of generations mid-session?: Starter and Pro roll into pay-as-you-go at the listed rates, so you never hit a wall at the table. Free simply stops drafting; everything you've saved stays editable.
Can I export everything if I leave?: Always. Every entity exports as Markdown, every map as PNG, and there's a "full campaign" ZIP export on the Pro and Starter plans. Share-links keep working until you disable them.
What happens when I downgrade?: Your data is never deleted. Pro → Starter archives campaigns down to one; archived campaigns stay read-only until reactivated. Starter → Free locks the extended modules and turns off collaboration; existing collaborators lose access to anything already shared.
Do players need to pay?: No. Players view handouts via share-links with no account, or sign in as a Player (a free read-only role on your campaign). Only the DM seat is billed.
Can I use Herald.ink from Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini?: Yes. Add https://api.herald.ink/mcp as a custom connector in your AI app (Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini) and sign in, and your assistant can look things up in your campaigns and file new NPCs, places and quests on my desk. It reads my writing guide first, so its drafts sound like your campaign. It uses none of your generations: the assistant does the writing, on its own bill. How does this compare to World Anvil / LegendKeeper / Kanka?: Fine tools, and if shelves are what you want, theirs are sturdier than most. But a wiki keeps your world in place, and worlds are no good standing still. I keep the books and run the errands: draft when you're stuck, whisper the harbormaster's voice back mid-scene, count initiative when steel comes out. A filing cabinet with legs, if you like. Don't worry, I don't kick.
